MTN Ghana has assured its teeming subscribers of a festive season free from interruptions of service. The country’s leading network provider says there has been series of upgrades on all of its service stations across the country to give its customers a quality service experience, especially during the upcoming festive season.
Mobile phone users in Ghana usually complain of widespread and frequent service interruptions during special seasons, including Christmas, with users often unable to make calls, top up credit or use data bundles.
Speaking to Live Business News, the Chief Technical Officer at MTN Mr. Hendrik Vorster explained some of the challenges MTN as an operator faces, which tend to affect quality delivery of service. He mentioned battery theft and fibre cuts among some of the problems his outfit has to deal with in order to offer reliable services to its customers. He revealed that in 2014 alone, the company lost $3 million on battery theft and according to him these developments have forced the MTN Ghana to invest heavily in additional protection mechanisms.
These have resulted in a tremendous decline in theft and have boosted the availability for power for the past two months, he said. Mr Vorster further noted that MTN is aware of subscribers’ problems with the network especially during festive seasons and has stepped up efforts to address them. “In terms of the December period, it something that we plan months in advance and there have been lots of upgrades to cater for capacity over periods like the Christmas and the new year period on all platforms across network. Increased monitoring will take place as well and there will be a focused approach in ensuring a good customer experience in these times,” he said.
