The payment for computerized registration and deployment of National service Personnel was introduced in 2005 and has been in existence since then. It is therefore not a new policy, following misleading information circulating especially on social media about the payment of forty Ghana cedis by prospective National Service Personnel. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The GH¢40 was paid by both previous and serving national service personnel and had not been increased. “The breakdown of the forty Ghana cedis is as follows:</div>
<ul>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
GH¢10 for NSS ID</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
GH¢10 for National Service Personnel(NASPA) dues</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
GH¢20 for computerized registration per person.</div>
</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 Previously, National Service personnel posted to the private sector user agencies paid the entire GH¢40 upfront at the point of picking their appointment letters, those posted to public institutions had theirs paid through deductions from their allowances.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Board and management of NSS has announced that starting with the 2015/2016 service year, all prospective service personnel who intend to avail themselves to the computerized registration would be required to make payment at the point of enrolment for the following reasons:</div>
<ul>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
 To eliminate all forms of cash transactions and payment at NSS offices across the country, with the primary objective for corrupt practices.</div>
</li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
To improve the quality of service rendered by NSS to ensuring that service personnel NSS ID cards and other relevant items are ready on time and can be picked at the time of collecting their appointment letters. For instance some 2014/2015 service personnel have still not received their NSS ID cards due to delays associated with deducting payments from allowances before producing cards</div>

<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
Furthermore, to ensure that service personnel whether posted to the private or public sectors are treated equally and fairly as far as their obligation to the scheme and the services rendered to them were concerned. </div>

<li><div style="text-align: justify;">
It also eliminates the phenomenon of multiple deductions suffered by some service personnel in a case where deployments of service personnel are amended for one reason or the other. </div>

The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) is very pleased with the innovative solutions the Board and Management of the National Service Scheme has adopted to improve the quality of service rendered to fresh graduates during their period of National service to our beloved country.</div>
