JB:CLING STEADFASTLY TO GOD'S WORD

My kid brother is a Computer Science student at one 
of Ghana's most revered universities. He is obsessed with what he does 
and displays profound pedantry that makes me believe him so much. 
Recently,he gave me a driver pack to instal on my laptop and during the 
installation my Windows warned me that it didn't know the source of one 
of the installing drivers so I should consider aborting it. I did not. I
 went ahead and continued with the installation, muttering to myself "If
 Sammy says this is good then it is good." Just then the Holy Spirit 
spoke to me. Can you imagine how your life would be if you believed 
God's word totally without doubting like you believe the word of your 
brother?" Mm! My attention was sharply arrested. I begun to think. 
Indeed, I would be outrageously successful if I held steadfastly to 
God's word in such a manner. This is my word for you; cling steadfastly 
to the promises of God. If God says He will make your name great then it
 doesn't matter the kind of background you come from, you will be great.
 If God says He will give you the nations for your inheritance, then 
that's what He will do even if your Dad has never bought a plot of land.
 If God says He will prosper you, then it will happen regardless of 
whether you sell sachet water. If God says the sun, the moon and 11 
stars will bow to you, you better believe it! Cling steadfastly to God's
 word. Your life is about to break into a season of abundance!!!

JB: HITTING YOUR LIFE'S TARGET

It was in primary school and I had been unfortunate enough to be made 
the Primary Boys Prefect. Unfortunate because my school was in a 
pre-dominantly Ga community and the boys in it were ruthless in dealing 
with those who crossed them. And cross them, I did on a regular basis. 
My ability to best them at the books did not come with an ability to 
surpass them physically. They were fierce, bullish and brutal. A part of
 my duties as Prefect was to write the names of those who spoke 
vernacular. One day after causing some of them to be punished, they 
ambushed me after school and gave me a good beating. I threw more 
punches but hit no target. I exerted more energy but still came away 
with a defeat. As I think about this incident, I recognize that most 
people are living their lives like the way I fought that battle. They 
are throwing more punches but hitting no target, exerting more energy 
but achieving little results. So how do you avoid living this way? First
 of all, get CLARITY. Define exactly what it is that you want out of 
life. What target do you want to hit? Secondly, muster COURAGE. 
Arguably, the main reason I lost that fight is because I couldn't muster
 the courage to throw my punches at my target. Like me, most people know
 what target they want to hit. Unfortunately, they are afraid to throw a
 massive punch at it because of the possibility of failure. Whatever 
goal you have this year, go for it! Next, CONSTANCY. Don't just hit 
once. Keep hitting. Keep working on your idea. Continue sharpening your 
gift. Dedicate yourself to your dream until it finally manifests. Don't 
be like the Biblical King Josiah who failed to extend his dominion 
because he failed to continue hitting the target. And when all fails, 
stage a COME-BACK. Never, never, never, never, never, never give up!

JB:POVERTY IS A CHOICE

Poverty is a choice! And so is prosperity. No 
profession precludes you from increasing your financial lot in life. No 
matter which career path you take, if you can cultivate the right 
mindset and deploy enough wisdom, you can create wealth and achieve 
financial freedom. Consider the household Sammy Otoo. Sammy Otoo is your
 ordinary English teacher. Well, not so ordinary. He was a very good 
teacher who could have chosen to remain stuck in his paltry government 
salary and constantly bemoan the unfortunate circumstances of his chosen
 career. Not so. In addition to his teaching job, he started a private 
SSCE preparatory classes in 1993. By 1997, he had already established 
his own high school, Sammo Senior High School. He cultivated this seed 
and eventually expanded from Bakano, Cape Coast to Yamoransa by building
 an ultra modern complex. Later, after realizing the scant hostel 
facilities at the University of Cape Coast, he built a 120 room hostel 
to accommodate student. Solved a social problem. Increased his stream of
 income. At present, he is establishing a private university. I'm 
persuaded there are teachers who are probably more gifted than he is but
 cannot boast of any such improvements in their lives. Your profession 
does not limit you, it is your mindset that does. Regardless of your 
profession, you can significantly improve your state in life by applying
 wisdom. Let nothing limit you. Expand your vision! Poverty is a 
choice!!!

JB:WHY YOU WONT SUCCEED IN 2015

I can tell you why you won't succeed in 2015! Ouch, 
that's harsh! Arent you supposed to be a motivational speaker? Oh, I 
still am. But the truth is you don't need motivation right now. You need
 provocation! So, yes, I can tell you why your life will not improve in 
2015. This year I embarked on a one-on-one paid coaching session with 
interested clients. Initially, some of my clients weren't showing up for
 the sessions or weren't doing their assignments. I thought "if I made 
them pay the fee upfront perhaps it would motivate them to work harder 
on their lives and implement the ideas I was teaching them". They did 
pay the fees upfront but they still continued in their old ways. I 
communicated with them severally and they came up with all sorts of 
excuses. Then it reminded me of what was happening in church as well. At
 the start of the year, my pastor Dr. Mensa Otabil taught extensively on
 the importance of developing a 20 year life plan. He returned again and
 again to his congregation and only a handful of people had been able to
 discipline themselves to draw their plans. I observed and took 
instruction, that the greatest obstacle to success in life is the 
inability to DISCIPLINE yourself and TAKE ACTION on your goals or ideas.
 Forget the prophetic declarations! Forget the all-night prayers! Forget
 the start-of-year Springboard you will attend! If you can't muster the 
DISCIPLINE to get things done, your life will not improve in the coming 
year. It doesn't matter the prophecies you receive, because your 
choices are more powerful than any prophecy. For many of you, what you 
need to improve next year is not new ideas. You just need to summon the 
discipline to work on the old ideas, the old dreams, the old goals you 
have abandoned. So get UP and start WORKING on your dreams!

JB:THE DANGER OF FALSE STARTS

The year was 2011. The location was Daegu, South 
Korea. The event was the World Athletics Championship. One of the most 
phenomenal athletes the world has ever seen, inarguably the fastest man 
in the world, was among a group of athletes competing in the finals of 
the 100m dash. Hitherto, he had won 3 gold medals at the Beijing 
Olympics in 2008. He is the first person in Olympic history to have won 
both the 100m and 200m races at world record times. He is also the first
 person in the world to have set 3 world records in a single Olympics 
competition. With all these as backdrop, the 100m final at Daegu was 
supposed to be another victory for the conqueror. But that was not to 
be. Just before the gun went off, Usain Bolt shot up and was 
disqualified for getting caught up in a false start. Well, Bolt is not 
the only one with a history of false starts. Many of us are caught up in
 false starts. False starts are usually characterized by having so much 
zeal that is not balanced by wisdom. False starts occur when you head 
into something with excitement that is not backed by knowledge, strategy
 or correct timing. If you start the year with so much enthusiasm but do
 not take the time to acquire wisdom and devise strategies to achieve 
your goals, it's a false start. If you start a new month but do not set 
any goals or targets to reach, it's a false start. If you start a 
business or a church without taking the time to get training, learning 
or mentoring, it's a false start. If you choose a career without finding
 out about yourself; your gifts, talents or passions, it's a false 
start. If you get married without taking the time to learn the ropes of 
marriage and the differences and roles of men and women, it's a false 
start. May you receive wisdom to avoid false starts!

It's been overly said by many thinkers and theologians that the greatest gift is the gift of life. So we are grateful to God that we have lived to see the second day of the second month of the year. But having life alone is not enough. There must be an unflinching determination to ensure that the life we have is of a high quality; that we are improving in what we do month by month, year by year. If that's going to happen, you must cultivate the habit of asking quality of questions. The quality of the questions you ask will determine the quality of your answers and, consequently, the quality of the future you construct. So the first set of questions you want to ask; 
1. Questions of Evaluation: these questions evaluate the past; if the remaining 11 months of the year turns out like January turned out, how would your life be? Did you achieve your goals for January? Did you improve in what you do? What did you do well? What did I do well? 
2. Questions of Establishment: these questions identify what you must do in order to improve the present; how can I improve my performance and productivity? What new ideas or strategies must I implement? What new relationships and partnerships can I develop? What new habits will empower me to achieve more? What are my Key Result Areas? (Areas where I get the most results) 
3. Questions of Elimination: not only is it important to know what to do, you must also know what to stop doing. Which habits are holding me back from reaching my full potential? What items should I stop wasting time on? Which relationships drain my energy? 
Ask quality questions. Don't just jump into the new month without a plan on how to do better than last month. Don't be too busy working in your life that you have no time to work on your life!

JB: Refined by Fire

When my mum visited her rapidly aging father almost two decades ago, he 
was adamant about serving her drinks by himself. In his characteristic 
"old soldier" authoritative demeanor, the septuagenarian got his way 
amidst protests from all and sundry. Halfway through the drink-up, my 
grandfather picked up a crown cork and spoke to his daughter, "Adwoa, do
 you know how this was made?" He begun. "It was made by passing metal 
through a very hot furnace. The heat from the fire is what
 helps to mould it. It only becomes useful after it has gone through the
 fire and undergone polishing. If you are going to be useful in life, 
you will have to go through fire." Now, the reason for his tenacious 
insistence to serve the drinks had become obvious. He had a lesson to 
teach. My grandfather's wisdom is wisdom for all of us. If you are going
 to become fit to function in your purpose, you will go through the 
fires of life. If you are going to qualify to be at the top of anything,
 like the crown cork is, there will be hard times that will make you 
feel like quitting. But you can only best the competition if you are 
refined by the fires of life. You can only fulfill destiny if you are 
moulded by pain and stretched by suffering. Don't give up when the going
 gets tough. Don't give up when the heat is searing at your flesh. Don't
 give up when you are confronted with obstacles. Go through the mill. 
Submit yourself to the pain of discipline. Submit yourself to the pain 
of diligent application. Many people quit their dreams because they want
 to avoid the pain of the fire. May that never be said of you. You are 
being moulded to serve at the top of your game!!!
